England on top after Day 1 in Cape Town
England took some crucial early wickets on Day 1 of the Third Test, before a fightback from South Africa left the hosts on 279 for 6.
Jacques Kallis was again the key player for the Proteas and remains unbeaten on 108, whilst Dale Steyn will be at the other end tomorrow morning on 26.
An horrendous dropped catch in the second over of the day by Graeme Swann suggested England might be out of luck today, but England bowled well to trap South Africa at 127 for 5. Kallis and Boucher shared a partnership of 89 runs before the breakthrough dismissal of the latter for 51, and England will be looking to polish off the tail before lunch tomorrow.
It goes without saying that if England win this Test, they will secure the series – this means that tomorrow morning’s session will be vital.
