England squad for first Ashes Test

The headline news is that Steve Harmison has been left out of the squad to face Australia in the first Ashes Test in Cardiff on Wednesday.

Despite taking six wickets in a warm-up game for the England Lions, the Durham fast bowler misses out, with Graham Onions taking his well-deserved place in the squad.

Monty Panesar got the nod ahead of Adil Rashid for the second spinner’s spot, and the two big stars Andrew Flintoff and Kevin Pietersen bring their reassuring presence to the squad.

Roll on Wednesday. We can’t wait.

England squad: Andrew Strauss (captain), Alastair Cook, Ravi Bopara, Kevin Pietersen, Paul Collingwood, Matt Prior, Andrew Flintoff, Stuart Broad, Graeme Swann, Jimmy Anderson, Monty Panesar, Ian Bell, Graham Onions.

I believe harmison’s exclusion is a good decision as cardiff spins very well so it was a good to choice to include panesar.
